Box Score NEWBERRY - Despite a fantastic comeback effort the Newberry Wolves fell short to Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference action Tuesday night, 3-1.
Newberry (6-4, 2-3 SAC) fell behind two sets to none after hitting poorly in the opening frames. The Wolves had seven hitting errors in each set, while Anderson (6-4, 4-1 SAC) was on fire.
The Wolves turned things around in the third set with 16 kills against only three errors on the way to a .361 hitting percentage. Both teams were neck and neck in the fourth set, as the frame went deep into extra points with AU emerging with a 29-27 set win
Senior captain Alexus Horton led the way for the Wolves with 14 error-free kills on 22 attempts, giving her a .636 hitting percentage along with five blocks. Freshman Maggie Marsh had a double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs, while Mary Siebert added 17 digs and Kensley Jordan had 16 digs.
Madison Darby-McClure went into double digit kills with 13, while Logan Hayward had eight kills and 15 digs.
As a team the Wolves had 47 kills on 150 attempts for a .147 hitting percentage. The Wolves had 47 assists and 72 digs in the battle while adding eight block assists.
The Trojans were led by Jessica Harris and Serena Jackson to totaled 39 kills on 81 attacks. Megan Embry led the way in digs with 15 while Priscilla Irizarry added 47 assists.
Newberry hosts two South Atlantic Conference matches this weekend, welcoming Lenoir-Rhyne at 7 p.m. Friday before Brevard comes to town for a 1 p.m. Saturday match.
