Newberry tied its game (1-1) against Lee University this past Friday. Michelle Calmeyn slipped the ball through the goalkeeper’s hands with a direct kick from the top of the box to tie the game at 1-1. The Wolves then traveled to Alabama to face The University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday but lost 3-2. In the second half, Guadalupe Magana scored off an assist from Lindsay Huber. The Wolves scored another goal with 11 minutes left in the game when Calmeyn chipped the ball in over the keeper from about 25 yards out.
ABOUT CATAWBA COLLEGE
The Catawba College women’s soccer team fell to Flagler University, 2-1, this past Friday. Catawba freshman, Emily Davis, scored the games first goal and the first of her career in the 35th minute of play. The ball was struck hard to beat Flagler's keeper Racheal Cecil. The Catawba Indians were voted to finish fifth in the preseason poll announced by the South Atlantic Conference league office. Bethany Davis garnered first team accolades in goal while Alex Husley and Erin Feldman earn second team honors for midfield and defense, respectively.
