The Wolves took a 3-1 victory in the final matchup with the Fleet on Tuesday after a Jeff Sneed (Cumming, Ga.) solo home run got the Wolves going. Sneed, Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jacob Bass (North Augusta, S.C.) all had two hits each in the contest.
Senior Matt Chapman (Summerville, S.C.) made his first career start and went four complete innings, allowing only one hit in the fourth inning that spoiled the perfect game effort. He struck out six en rout to earning his third win of the season.
Newberry will look to close out the year strong as the Coker squad has been tough in their last few outings. They took two-of-three from Tusculum in Hartsville two weeks ago to start as four game winning streak, their longest of the season. However, they dropped three straight to Lincoln Memorial last weekend and come into the final weekend with a four game losing streak.
The Cobras are batting .309 as a team with 14 home runs and a .396 on-base percentage. Sammy Song is the leading hitter with a .376 average with 50 hits, including 13 doubles, and 30 runs scored. Miguel Frias leads Coker with three home runs while Jack Leech has 30 RBIs.
The young Coker pitching staff has been the weak spot as the Cobras only have one senior and four juniors while the rest of the staff is made up of freshman and sophomores. As a team Coker has a 7.91 ERA, giving up 355 runs in 337 innings while only striking out 209 batters.
