Box Score NEWBERRY – The Newberry College women’s lacrosse team dropped a nonconference game to Edinboro on Saturday afternoon, 17-3.
The Wolves (0-5, 0-2) got goals from Ajahna Grosvenor, Megan Kenny and Tessa Davis. Morgan Raffaele had five saves in goal for Newberry and Courtney Reinhardt had one. The Wolves recorded no assists on the afternoon.
Newberry had their game at Shorter cancelled on Thursday due to inclement weather and hadn’t played since a loss at Catawba on Mar. 3. Edinboro (1-0) was playing their first game of the season as they had a game cancelled yesterday due to rain.
The Wolves stumbled out of the gate as the Fighting Scots took a 6-0 lead in the first nine minutes. Newberry finally answered back as Megan Kenny finished a free position attempt and put it in the back of the net.
Edinboro would then score nine straight goals to take a 14-1 lead into halftime. Edinboro would only outscore Newberry 3-2 in the second half which produced far less action. Davis scored an unassisted goal during the run of play and Davis scored off of a free position.
Newberry recorded 12 shots in the game to go along with 21 ground balls and went 5-6 on clear attempts.
The Wolves will play again at home on Saturday as they host Tusculum at 4 p.m. in a South Atlantic Conference contest.
