CLINTON – The Newberry College women’s tennis team fell 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts against the Presbyterian College Blue Hose.

A last-minute schedule change opened up a match for the Newberry College women’s tennis team on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Presbyterian College to face the Blue Hose of the Big South Conference. Presbyterian College was originally slated to face the Western Carolina University women’s tennis team, but due to adverse road conditions the match was postponed last-minute.

The Blue Hose won all three doubles contests to earn the doubles point. At the No. 1 doubles slot, Greer Ransom and Demi Henschel defeated Vanessa Ortiz and Amanda Carrillo 8-5. In the No. 2 doubles match Elizabeth Williamson and Tara Lamers were defeated C.M. Andrews and Brittany Nuttall 8-6. The No. 3 doubles contest went the way of Presbyterian College as Sara McBride and Caroline deLoach defeated Newberry’s Kelly McManus and Rebeca Martinez 8-3.

PC swept the singles competition against the Wolves as well. At the No. 1 singles match, Ransom defeated Ortiz in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. The No. 2 singles match was won by Nuttall as she defeated Williamson 6-3, 6-1. Carrillo stumbled in the No. 3 singles contest against Henschel as she fell 6-2, 7-5.

The No. 4 singles match went the way of Andrews as she defeated Lamers in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Martinez was slotted at the No. 5 singles match, but fell to deLoach 6-0, 6-2. The final singles contest went the way of McBride as she defeated McManus 6-1, 6-0.
