NEWBERRY – The Newberry College women’s tennis team earned a 7-2 victory over the Mars Hill Lions inside the Cannon Courts at Newberry College on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles competition Tara Lamers and Elizabeth Williamson earned the 8-2 victory against Jade Henke and Juliana Fisher at the No. 2 doubles contest. The Lions earned one of their two match points at the No. 1 doubles matchup as Jasha Geerdink and Lucy McLaurin defeated Amanda Carrillo and Vanessa Ortiz 9-7. The No. 3 doubles match saw Rachel Lavaas and Rebeca Martinez defeat Grace Diepenbrock and Natalie Hilbig 9-8 (7-2).
At the No. 4 singles matchup Lamers earned the 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory over Henke. No. 2 singles match went the way of Williamson as she defeated McLaurin 6-1, 6-2. The lone singles point for the Lions happened at the No. 1 match as Geerdink defeated Ortiz 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 5 singles contest Martinez earned the 6-0, 6-1 victory against Luz Heilman. In the No. 3 singles matchup Carrillo defeated Fisher 6-2, 6-1. Kelly McManus earned the 6-0, 6-2 victory against Hilbig at the No. 6 singles matchup
The Newberry women’s tennis team returns to the courts on Tuesday February 18 at 1 p.m. versus the Coker Cobras.
