WOLVES NOTES
-The team tallied a major 73-69 win on the road against No.21 Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon. For the game, Samantha Creed led the team with 19 points followed by Emily Perry with 16 and Nicola Handreck with 14. Shelby Britten had 11 points and one assist. Kirsten Dunsmore grabbed nine boards and had three assists.
-Creed has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 30 – Dec. 6, announced Monday. Creed scored all of her 19 points in the second half in the Wolves’ only game of the week against No. 21 Carson-Newman. Creed collected three defensive rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes of play and was perfect from the three-point line as she made all three of her attempts.
-Meg Essex is second in the SAC for total blocks with 12 and Handreck is second in the SAC for total assists with 30.
- Creed has been named an Honorable Mention Preseason All-American and the Southeast Region Preseason Player of the Year by the Women’s Division II Bulletin. Creed enters her senior season after earning WBCA honorable mention All-American, ECAC All-Star second team and first team all-South Atlantic Conference honors as a junior in 2014-15.
WOLVES & BULLDOGS LAST MEETING
- In the 2014-15 season, the team lost the game against Wingate at home , 68-60.
-Haylee Lepaio had her 10th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Creed had nine points and surpassed the 1,000 point mark for her career.
- Jaya Schultz had 11 points and five rebounds for the Wolves in the loss.
BULLDOGS NOTES
- The Bulldogs are 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference from defeating Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill.
- Last season, Wingate was 22-10 overall and 19-3 in the always-tough South Atlantic Conference. Wingate was second in the league regular season race, only one game behind Anderson.
- Wingate leads the SAC with 13 appearances in the NCAA Division II national tournament. Wingate has an overall NCAA tourney record of 15-14 with Elite Eight appearances in 1995, 1996 and 2008. The Bulldogs have won 11 SAC regular season crowns and seven Food Lion SAC tournament championships. The Bulldogs participated in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals, defeating Lander in the first round and falling to Limestone in the semi-finals.
