Wolves fall on senior day

Newberry – Newberry College (9-15, 5-13 SAC) falls to Carson-Newman (24-5, 17-3 SAC) by a score of 3-1, (25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 25-15).

GAME SUMMARY

The Wolves were led by Logan Hayward as she tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs. Alexus Horton notched six kills and seven blocks while teammate Rachel Moran added 25 assists. Freshman Kensley Jordan and Maggie Marsh contributed 19 assists and 22 digs.

FIRST SET

Carson-Newman jumped out to an early led with the score at 9-4. The Wolves bounced back to tie the match up at 10 off a kill from Madison Darby-McClure. The match went back and forth from their till the match was tied at 18-18. Mary Siebert notched a kill to give the Wolves 20-18 led. The Eagles bounced back to tie it at 20. The Wolves stopped their run to score the next five unanswered points to win the first set 25-20.

SECOND SET

The second set started out close with the score tied at 6-6. Carson-Newman tried to go on a run and pushed their lead to 14-10. Newberry battled back but couldn’t tie the set up. Carson-Newman held on to their lead with the score at 18-15, Newberry battled back again but fell short in the set 25-20.

THIRD SET

Carson-Newman jumped out to an early 11-3 lead. Newberry battled back to pull within five to make the score 15-10. Alexus Horton notched a kill to make the score 17-12 but the Eagles kept their lead. Newberry came back again with one last run. The score was 24-17 when Newberry had kills by Alexus Horton and Logan Hayward to pull within three when the Eagles tabbed their last point to take the second set 25-21.

Fourth Set

Carson-Newman kept their offensive going jumping out to an early 11-5 lead. The Eagles never looked back as Newberry had no offense in the fourth set. Newberry was down 22-10 when they started making a comeback but fell short and lost the set 25-15.
