Newberry welcomes Queens into town

NEWBERRY – Newberry College faces off against Queens University of Charlotte tomorrow night at 8 p.m. in Eleazer Arena to open up conference play.

The Wolves went 2-0 during the weekend as they played Lees-McRae and Washington Adventist in the 2015 Newberry Invitational. Newberry played Lees-McRae on Saturday November 21 and won 96-91. Ronell Crockett led the way for the Wolves on the offensive end with 21 points. James Stepp and Xavier Holmes each notched seven rebounds on the defensive end. Mitch Riggs contributed on each end of the floor with 12 points and four boards against the Bobcats.

The Wolves faced off against Washington Adventist on Sunday, November 22 as Newberry rolled right past the Shock’s with a 105-87 win. Newberry had a 19 point lead at 2:17 in the second half which was their largest lead of the game. Mitch Riggs tallied 25 points while Brandon Taylor added 19 going 8-8 at the charity strike and grabbing 11 rebounds for the double-double. Xavier Holmes also notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.

Newberry will be back at home on Saturday at 2 p.m. to play Head Coache Dave Davis old school Warren Wilson. Coach Davis was at Warren Wilson for two seasons where he went 22-34 as head coach.
