Wolves win in last regular season game

HARTSVIILE – Newberry College sweeps Coker College in last regular season game with scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 26-24.

GAME SUMMARY

Alexus Horton led the charge for the Wolves offensively with 11 kills on 20 attempts giving her a .400 hitting percentage. Alexis Bryant added eight kills along with Mary Siebert who also tallied eight kills. Rachel Moran and Maggie Marsh combined for 45 assists while Kensley Jordan notched 17 digs.

FIRST SET

Newberry jumped out to an early 10-5 lead to start the first set. Madison Darby-McClure notched a kill to give the Wolves the six point lead in the early going. The Cobras battled back to tie the set at 19 and then a kill by Christen Bragg gave the Cobras the lead. Newberry tied it back up at 20 with a kill by Samantha De Jong. De Jong notched another kill to give the Wolves a 22-21 lead. Mary Siebert and Alexus Horton each tallied a kill which game the Wolves a 25-23 lead and a win in the first set.

SECOND SET

The second set was closer at the beginning as there was eight ties. Each team would gain a lead and then lose it. The Wolves started to pull away after it was tied 11-11. Alexis Bryant blocked an attack from Coker’s Madison Bingle to the lead. The Cobars battled back to tie the set up at 18 and then again at 19. Logan Hayward notched a kill to give the Wolves a 24-23 lead. Christen Bragg had a service error to give the Wolves the second set.

THIRD SET

The third set was like the second set with a lot of ties and neither team gaining an edge. Late in the set the Wolves were down 23-21 when Samantha De Jong tallied a kill to bring the Wovles within one. Jordan then had a service ace to tie the set up. Newberry then went on to win the set 26-24 with back to back kills from Alexus Horton
