Wingate, N.C. -  Newberry College (11-16, 7-14 SAC) fall to Wingate (25-3, 19-2 SAC) 3-0 with scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 27-25.

GAME SUMMARY

Alexus Horton led the way for the Wolves offensively with nine kills. Logan Hayward finished the night with seven kills and nine digs while Rachel Moran tallied 16 assists and freshman Kensley Jordan notched 12 digs.

FIRST SET

The Wolves were up early against the Bulldogs with the score at 10-7. Newberry stayed a few points ahead with a kill by Madison Darby-McClure to make the score 8-5. The Bulldogs tried to battle back but never caught the Wolves till it was tied at 20-20. The Bulldogs scored eight unanswered points to take a 23-20 lead late in the first set. Newberry tried to battle back but fell in the first set 25-22.  

SECOND SET

The second set started out with Newberry having an early lead till the Bulldogs battled back and took a 13-10 lead. The Wolves came back and tied the set up at 17 with a service ace by Rachel Moran. Wingate went on to score seven unanswered points which led them to a 25-18 win in the second set.  

THIRD SET

The third set started out with Wingate jumping out to an early 8-5 lead. Newberry battled back and tied it up at 15 with a few kills by Samantha De Jong and then took the lead at 17-15. The match went back and forth from their till Wingate took a 23-22 lead. Newberry tied it back up at 23 and then again at 24. The Wovles took the lead at 25-24 with a kill by Horton. Wingate scored the next two points to win the set and the match.
