Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial (6-6, 4-5 SAC) drops Newberry (6-8, 2-7 SAC) 3-1 in a Saturday afternoon South Atlantic Conference (SAC) battle at the Mary Mars Gymnasium with scores of 25-13, 25-16, 20-25, 25-18.
The Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the opening set. The Railsplitters would go on an early run to score 10 unanswered points to push their lead to 15-2. The Wolves would put on a late push but fell short and lost the opening set 25-13.
The second set started out different with the score staying close. Tied at 4-4 the Railsplitters would score four quick points to push their lead 8-4. A kill by Wolves Lauren Underwood brought the Wolves back within one making the score 7-8. The Railsplitters would stretch their lead to 20-14 and start putting the Wolves away. The Railsplitters would score four unanswered points to win the second set 25-16.
The third set started off with the Wolves jumping out to a 4-0 lead. With the Wolves leading 15-13 and the Railsplitters starting to make a comeback a kill by senior captain Alexus Horton put the Wolves up 16-13 and the Wolves never looked back. Mary Siebert would get the set point with a kill of her own with an assists from Maggie Marsh to give the Wolves a 25-20 win.
The Railsplitters came out with fire in the fourth set jumping out to an early 12-6 lead. The Wolves would try to make a comeback with a couple kills by Logan Hayward to bring the Wolves within five. That is the closet the Wolves would get to the lead as the Railsplitters would go on a run and win the fourth set 25-18.
The Wolves were led by Logan Hayward who had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Hayward also added seven block assists. Samantha De Jong added nine kills and six block assists while Mary Siebert tallied nine kills and 10 digs on the afternoon. Freshman setter Maggie Marsh added 20 assists to her total. As a team, the Wolves tallied 44 kills, 38 assists, 54 digs and 18 block assists.
Lincoln memorial was led by Liz Brock who tallied 17 kills on 27 attempts giving her a .519 hitting percentage. Abby Cash added 44 assists and 12 digs to give her the first double-double while Kiera Holland tallied the second double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Erica Whiteaker came in off the bench and tallied 15 digs on the afternoon.
