COLUMBIA – After a 9-0 sweep of Southern Wesleyan on Friday afternoon, the Newberry College women’s tennis team defeated the Benedict Tigers on Saturday afternoon 7-2 at the Southeast Tennis Center.
In the No. 1 singles match, Benedict’s Karla Flores defeated Vanessa Ortiz 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 2 position, Esther Zelaya defeated Newberry’s Elizabeth Williamson 7-5, 2-6, 10-7. The Wolves swept singles matches three thru six.
At the No. 3 singles match Amanda Carrillo defeated Daniella Rios 6-4, 6-3. The No. 4 singles contest went the way of Tara Lamers who swept Belinda Camacho 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 5 slot Rebeca Martinez defeated Adrienne Milow 6-3, 6-1. Lastly in the No. 6 match, Rachel Lovaas defeated Juliet Campbell 6-2, 6-4.
The Wolves swept the three doubles points on the afternoon. At the No. 1 slot Ortiz and Carrillo defeated Flores and Rios 8-4. In the No. 2 match Williamson and Lamers defeated Zelaya and Camacho 8-3. The No. 3 slot had Whaley and Viegas defeat Campbell and Milow 8-1.
