Box Score 2 Newberry – The Newberry College split their two matches on the final day of the Inagural Newberry Invitational. The Wolves will next be in action next Friday and Saturday in the USC Aiken Invitational. With the win and loss, Newberry’s record goes to 3-1 on the year. Newberry will face Lees-McRae at 1 p.m. and Limestone at 5 p.m. on Friday and Francis Marion at 2 p.m. and USC Aiken at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Wolves came up just short of a nail-biter in Eleazer Arena to USC Aiken early Saturday afternoon, the Pacers won by set scores of 32-30, 25-21, 25-27, 15-25 and 15-12.
Newberry lead the Pacers in hitting (.131-.073), blocks (12-8), and kills (57-56). The Wolves were led by Sophomore Logan Hayward who picked up 11 kills in 32 attempts and hit .250 for the match. Sophomore Ashely Minor had the only double-double in the match for the Wolves with 26 assists and 19 digs.
Ashley Diedrich paced the Pacers with a double-double (20 kills and 19 digs). Hannah Tierney hit .310 with 11 kills.

USC Aiken went on a four point run in the middle of the fifth set to put them up 10-5, Newberry would put up a fight and claw their way back to 14-12, but came up just short.

Notables
Senior Elayni Stokes picked up 33 digs in the match. Sophomore Madison Darby-McClure hit .273 with nine kills. Seniors Amanda Soper and Jessica King added nine and kills apiece, respectively.
Newberry 3, Belmont Abbery 1 Boxscore
Newberry dominated the second match of the day against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders, set scores were 25-18, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-18.
The Wolves dominated the statistical categories, leading in kills (54-35), hitting percentage (.190-.099), digs (55-44), service aces (7-2) and assists (51-34). The Wolves were led by Senior Holly Brisson. She hit .455 for the match with 12 kills.
The Crusaders were led by Hannah Schellenberg (12 kills) and Coreen Norwood (.533, nine kills).
Match Changer
After dropping the second set, the Wolves quickly jumped out to a 13-5 lead and didn’t look back, stopping any momentum Belmont Abbey had after winning the second set.
