Box Score NEWBERRY – Newberry College dropped its second match of the weekend slate, 12-3, to the Knights of Bellarmine College Sunday afternoon at Setzler Field.
Sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Warren slotted home two goals to bring her season total to four, which places her third, behind Kaitlyn Willard and Kaycie Andrew.
Bellarmine scored their first goal just 2:17 into the match as Alexis Van Wallaghen scored her second of the season. The Knights added its second goal three minutes later as Meghan Williams buried her first of the season. Kelsey O’Bryan and Alex Ojeda scored for the Knights to propel them to a 4-0 lead.
Willard added her third goal of the weekend as she slotted home the first goal of the match for the Scarlet and Grey. Willard assisted on both of Warren’s goals later in the match.
Both teams swapped shots and penalty corners before Bellarmine’s Katherine Schneidtmiller put the Knights up 5-1. Just under six minutes later, the Knights added its sixth goal from Helena Varga. Schneidtmiller tallied another to put Bellarmine ahead 7-1 at the 29:08 mark.
28 seconds before the half, Warren scored her first of the match off of an assist from Willard’s penalty corner.
The Knights added five more goals in the second half to take a commanding 12-2 lead before Newberry added its third goal. Warren scored her second of the match from another penalty corner pass by Willard in the 62nd minute.
The Wolves return to action Saturday as they host Mercy at 5 p.m. from Setzler Field.
