THE GAME
• Newberry College begins its 101st season of intercollegiate football.
• Today’s game marks the 981st game in school history, with Newberry carrying an all-time record of 404-540-36 (.431)
• The Wolves are receiving votes in the AFCA poll. Charleston Southern is receiving votes in the FCS coaches’ poll.
• The teams do not share any common opponents this year.
THE CHARLESTON SOUTHERN SERIES
• This game is the ninth meeting between Newberry and the Buccaneers.
• Tonight’s game is the first meeting between the two schools since 1999.
• This will be Newberry’s fifth visit to Buccaneer Field. The Bucs are scheduled to return to Setzler Field in 2015 as part of a home-and-home agreement with Newberry.
• Newberry is 7-1 all-time against CSU and has won the last six meetings.

AGAINST I-AA/FCS TEAMS
• Newberry College is 9-18 against Division I-AA/FCS teams since joining Division II in 1991.
• Newberry’s last win over an FCS team was a 23-7 home win over Morehead State on Sept. 9, 2006.
• Of the nine wins over FCS teams, six are over Charleston Southern, who transitioned from Division III to I-AA in 1993.
• This is Newberry’s first game against an FCS team since visiting Samford in 2010.
• Newberry’s last game against a Big South opponent was the 21-7 home win over Coastal Carolina on Sept. 18, 2004.
THE COACHES
NEWBERRY: Todd Knight (Gardner-Webb, 1989) is in his sixth season as Newberry’s head coach. He has a 28-25 record and a record of 5-3 against teams ranked in the AFCA Divsion II Top 25. He has an 18-16 record against the South Atlantic Conference. In 2009, Knight led Newberry to a 6-4 record and became the first Newberry head coach to record a winning record in his inaugural season since Reed Charpia in 1978. In 2010, Knight led Newberry to a 4-6 record, as well as the 2011 season. The Wolves went 5-6 overall in the 2012 season and achieved a ranking as high as No. 25 nationally. In 2013, he led the Wolves to a 9-3 overall record, making the school’s second appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Newberry finished the season ranked No. 23 nationally.
This is Knight’s first appearance as a head coach against his former team, Charleston Southern. Knight was the Bucs’ defensive coordinator in the early 2000s.
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN: Jamey Chadwell (ETSU, 2000) is in his second season as head coach at CSU and his sixth season overall. He has a 35-25 overall head coaching record and 10-3 at Charleston Southern. He led the Bucs to their best season ever in 2013, reaching as high as No. 12 in the Division I FCS rankings.
UP NEXT: LIMESTONE
• Newberry hosts Limestone College for the 2014 home opener on Saturday, September 13, at 6 p.m.
• The game will be the second-ever game for the Saints. Limestone hosts Wingate in its first-ever game this week.
• This is the second straight year Newberry has hosted a first-year program (Florida Tech in 2013).
LOWCOUNTRY HOMECOMING
• Of the 95 players listed on today’s dress roster, 20 hail from the greater Charleston area.
• Based on current schedules, the game against CSU will be the closest to home these players will play a game in their college career.
