MARS HILL, N.C. - The Newberry women's tennis team eased to a 6-3 victory over the Mars Hill Lions on Saturday at the Hart Tennis Complex.
Newberry (13-7, 8-3 SAC) took two points from Mars Hill (7-9, 5-5 SAC) in doubles play, with victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
The duo of senior Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and sophomore Vanessa Ortiz (Cochabamba, Bolivia) earned an 8-2 win over Jade Henke and Anna Rickenbaker at No. 2 doubles. No. 3 doubles saw Natalie Hilbig and Grace Diepenbrock fall to Newberry sophomore Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) and freshman Kelly McManus (Charleston, S.C.) by an 8-1 score.
Singles saw senior Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) battle to a three-set victory at No. 2 over Lucy McLaurin, while Ortiz also needed three sets to drop Rickenbaker at No. 3.
Senior Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) dropped only one game to Hilbig at No. 5, while Ziehe cruised to a straight sets victory over Diepenbrock at No. 6.
The Wolves host Limestone on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
