Wolves end Florida trip with 23-4 loss to No. 11 Mocs

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 11 Florida Southern Moccasins proved too much for the Newberry women's lacrosse team as the Wolves fell 23-4 at Bryant Stadium.

Thursday morning started in Florida Southern's (3-0) favor as the Mocs scored four straight goals, before Newberry (0-5) sophomore Alexis Cathcart (Spartanburg, S.C.) netted the Wolves' first goal of the game.

The Mocs answered Cathcart's goal with ten-straight goals over the remainder of the period. Newberry got one back in the final minute of the first half when sophomore Jessica Baxtrom (St. Leonard, Md.) scored off an assist from senior KerriAnn Barlage (Glen Burnie, Md.).

Florida Southern stayed hot with seven goals to open the second period. It wasn't until the 8:48 mark that sophomore Noelle Allen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored the Wolves' third goal of the morning. Allen's goal was assisted by redshirt freshman Ajahna Grosvenor (Lawrenceville, Ga.).

Another Mocs goal was followed up by an unassisted goal by Barlage, before the Moccasins tallied one final goal on the morning.

Barlage led the Wolves on the draw with six draw controls in the game.

The Wolves open up South Atlantic Conference play on Monday with a 5 p.m. game at Lenoir-Rhyne.
