Box Score WINGATE, N.C. - Senior's Ellie Gleeson and Tasia Holdorf each put together double-digit scoring efforts in their final game in the scarlet and gray as the Wolves saw their season end in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship at No. 2-seed Wingate by a final score of 78-52.
Newberry (15-12) and Wingate (22-5) battled throughout the opening half as the exchanged eight leads and saw the score even on six occasions in the first period. Newberry' sfirst lead came at the 16:45 mark as junior Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) hit a jumper off an assist from Gleeson (Albury, New South Wales, Australia).
Newberry lost and soon regained its lead when Holdorf (Anchorage, Alaska) scored on back-to-back possessions. The Wolves' 10-7 lead did not hold for long as the Newberry lead fluctuated between one and three until the Bulldogs regained control of the half at the 7:29 mark when Janitsha Williams hit a jumper to give Wingate a two-point advantage. The Wolves briefly regained a one-point advantage, but the Bulldogs headed to halftime with a one-point lead of their own.
The second half was all Wingate as the Bulldogs stretched their lead to 14 points two minutes into the half.
Wingate's lead extended to over 20 points in the second half as Newberry was unable to keep up with the Bulldogs offense and Wingate left their home gym with a 78-52 victory.
The Wolves were led by Holdorf's 21 points, while Gleeson added 12 points and seven assists. Lepaio recorded her 14th double-double of the season with a 13 point and 14 rebound performance.
