Box Score NEWBERRY - Freshman Katie Thompson led the Newberry lacrosse team with four caused turnovers and four ground balls as the Wolves fell 15-5 to the visiting Mount Olive Trojans on Sunday at Setzler Field.
Newberry (4-9) looked to control the game early after the two sides exchanged turnovers and missed offensive opportunities. After a successful Mount Olive (9-2) clearance, Thompson (Newark, Del.) forced a turnover that was picked up by sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Raffaele (Hilton Head Island, S.C.).
A clearance by the Wolves opened up Newberry's scoring account as redshirt-freshman Ajahna Grosvenor (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored the day's opening goal with 25 minutes remaining in the first period.
Mount Olive rattled off five straight, before Barlage (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored her first goal of the day.
The Trojans opened up a scoring streak after Barlage's goal in the first period and ended it in the second half, but not after increasing its lead to 11-2. The Wolves responded two minutes after Mount Olive's 11th goal, as Barlage netted her second.
Another short Mount Olive run was cut short by Barlage as she scored from a free position opportunity.
Trailing 15-4 with five minutes remaining, Barlage forced a Mount Olive turnover. After a successful clearance, Barlage netted her 39th goal of the season with 2:50 left in the period.
The Wolves were unable to get more than one shot off in the final two minutes, as Mount Olive finished the day with a 15-5 victory.
Thompson's four ground balls and four caused turnovers led the Wolves in both categories, while Barlage's four goals was a game-high for both sides. Junior Victoria Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.) controlled a team-high three draws.
Raffaele finished the day with 12 saves between the pipes.
The Wolves next see action on Thursday with their final road trip of the regular season at Queens, with a 7 p.m. scheduled first draw.
