Wolves fall behind early and struggle to come back in 13-1 loss at Limestone

Box Score

GAFFNEY - The Newberry Wolves fell behind the host Limestone Saints early and never recovered in a 13-1 loss at Founders FCU Stadium on Wednesday.

Newberry falls to 16-17 entering this weekend's home series against Lenoir-Rhyne, while Limestone is now 14-17.

The Wolves managed only four hits in the game and grounded into three double plays in the contest. After the first six Saints reached base in the first inning and Limestone scored six runs, the Wolves' comeback trail was rocky at best. Another two runs in the second put Newberry at an 8-0 disadvantage.

Brandan Sheridan (Jacksonville, Fla.) brought home a run in the fourth with an RBI single, but Newberry could only get one more runner in scoring position for the entire game as Eric Barbieri (Marlton, N.J.) hit a double in the sixth and was stranded there.

Sheridan had two of Newberry's four hits with Barbieri and Robert Kosch (Clemson, S.C.) each nabbing hits.

While the Newberry staff scuffled, using eight pitchers, a few hurlers stood out. Zach Morgan (Simpsonville, S.C.) was perhaps Newberry's most effective pitcher, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings.
