NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's lacrosse team eased to a 20-3 victory over the visiting Brevard Tornados at Setzler Field on Saturday, as the Wolves were led by Victoria Thomas' four goals.

Newberry (3-7, 2-1 SAC) controlled the game for most of the day as the Wolves netted the first goal of the afternoon 37 seconds into the game when sophomore Jessica Baxtrom (St. Leonard, Md.) assisted on sophomore Noelle Allen's (Lawrenceville, Ga.) first goal.

Another 23 seconds ticked off the clock before Brevard (0-7, 0-3 SAC) fell behind 2-0 as sophomore Carly Marksberry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored an unassisted goal one minute into the game.

Baxtrom and Allen hooked up again with 27:56 left in the first period, as Allen notched her 19th goal of the season. The would-be game winner came with 26:35 in the first as Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.) scored her first of the game off an assist from Marksberry.

Newberry rattled off 13 goals in the first, period while the Tornados answered with a pair. The second period saw the scoring slow down as Newberry outscored Brevard 7-1 in the second period.

For the Newberry offense, 12 Wolves scored goals in the game and six players finished with multiple tallies. Thomas led the offense with four goals. Junior Megan Kenny (Mauldin, S.C.), senior KerriAnn Barlage (Glen Burnie, Md.), Allen, Marksberry and Baxtrom each netted a pair of goals on the afternoon.

Senior Kayla Hopper (Newberry, S.C.) netted her first score of the year, while junior Tessa Davis (Triangle, Va.) scored her 11th of the season. Freshmen Olivia Knight (Spartanburg, S.C.), Karissa Dodson (Glen Burnie, Md.), Caitlyn Warren (Richmond, Va.) and senior Tricia Powell (Monroe Township, N.J.) each scored the first goal of their careers.

Baxtrom and Marksberry led in the assist column with three each.

Ball control statistics were led by Barlage and Thomas. On the day, Barlage grabbed five ground balls and corralled four draw controls, while Thomas also controlled four draws.

The defensive end was controlled by Powell, who in addition to a goal and two assists, led the Wolves with six caused turnovers.

Newberry sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Raffaele (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) was only forced to make two saves in the win, while freshman goalie Courtney Reinhardt (Charleston, S.C.) made her collegiate debut in the second period.

The Wolves picked up 32 ground balls, controlled 15 draws and finished a perfect 11-11 on clearance attempts in the victory.

In a quick turnaround, the Wolves head to Young Harris, Ga. tomorrow for a 2 p.m. first draw against the Mountain Lions.
