NEWBERRY - In a match that took place at two locations, the Newberry women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Lincoln Memorial at both Newberry High School and the Cannon Tennis Courts.
The Wolves (9-4, 5-1 SAC), the No. 10 team in the Southeast Region, earned the advantage over the Lady Railsplitters (5-4, 2-2 SAC) 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play.
No. 2 doubles saw sophomore Vanessa Ortiz (Cochabamba, Bolivia) and senior Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) knock off their counterparts 8-3. The No. 3 doubles match proved much closer as senior Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) and sophomore Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) earn a tight 9-7 victory.
After the two sides traveled across town and returned to the Newberry College campus, singles play got underway.
Senior Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) earned the first victory for the Wolves as she earned a two-set win at No. 2. Ortiz only needed a pair of ses to earn her 13th victory of the season.
Lamers clinched the match for the Wolves as she dispatched Roksolana Prudyvus in straight sets at No. 4 singles.
Newberry is set to host Lander on Thursday at 3 p.m.
