NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's tennis team eased through doubles on its way to an 8-1 victory over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Thursday at the Cannon Tennis Courts.
Doubles was all Newberry (7-4, 3-1 SAC) as the No. 10 team in the Southeast Region picked up a pair of 8-4 wins before senior Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) and sophomore Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) picked up a big 8-2 victory.
No. 1 doubles saw seniors Susana Aguirre (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) defeat Zorica Djuric and Lacey Lapp, while sophomore Vanessa Ortiz (Cochabamba, Bolivia) and senior
Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) knocked off Nateesha Hurtt and Lela Sparks Thompson at No. 2.
Singles saw Adum pick up a two-set win at No. 2, while Ortiz did the same at No. 3. Lamers cruised to victory at No. 4 singles and Strong picked up a win in straight sets at No. 5 after winning a second set tiebreaker.
Senior Shannon McManus (Charleston, S.C.) wrapped up the 8-1 victory for the Wolves with a two-set victory at No. 6.
The Wolves next see action on March 11, when Brevard travels to the Cannon Tennis Courts for a South Atlantic Conference match.
