Box Score NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves scored early and often on the way to a big 11-5 victory over the visiting Limestone Saints at the Smith Road Complex on Wednesday evening.
Newberry moves to 10-7 overall with the win, while Limestone falls to 3-10. The Wolves host non-conference foe Lincoln (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
All nine Newberry starters recorded base hits with the hosts pounding out 15 singles in the game. Nolan Schrenker (Valrico, Fla.) and Eric Barbieri (Marlton, N.J.) each notched three hits with Jermale Paige (Walterboro, S.C.) and JoJo Bradley (Spartanburg, S.C.) knocking out a pair of hits.
The Wolves got to Limestone starter Evan Jackson in the first inning, with Ryan Cranmer (Newport, N.C.) drawing a bases loaded walk and Bradley rapping a two-run single. A fielder's choice and throwing error by the Saints staked the Wolves to a 5-0 lead after the opening frame.
Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.), Barbieri and Bradley each pounded out RBI singles in the second. Schrenker brought home a pair of runs with a single and Barbieri hit his second run-scoring single of the game in the third, putting the Wolves at an insurmountable 11-0 lead.
Limestone made chips at the lead with runs in the fourth, fifth and ninth innings, but the Wolves' lead was never in doubt. Newberry had chances to add to the score, but stranded six runners on base in the final five innings at the plate.
Jake Nidiffer (Columbia, S.C.) earned his first collegiate win, allowing four runs - two earned - in 5.0 innings on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) pitched two scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 0.91 on the year.
