Box Score ANDERSON – The Newberry College Wolves fought hard but came up on the short end of the 3-0 score Tuesday night against the Anderson Trojans.

Senior Jessica King headlined the Wolves (9-8, 3-6) offense on the night hitting .375 with six errorless kills while also adding five block assists and one solo block. Sophomore Logan Hayward contributed nine kills while junior Alexus Horton and senior Holly Brisson added seven kills apiece. Senior libero Elayni Stokes picked up a match high 19 digs.
The Trojans (13-4, 6-3) jump out to multiple leads in the first set and facing a seven point deficit, the Wolves attempted to make a late push, but the lead was just too large and the Trojans took the first set 25-21. The Wolves hit .289 as a team with Horton, King and Brisson leading the way with 11 straight kills in 19 attempts. Senior Lauren Prachar accounted for six digs in the set while Stokes added five of her own.
In the second set Newberry fought Anderson to a 12-10 score but the Trojans took nine of the next 11 points to push the score to 21-14. The seven point lead was all Anderson needed as they fended off another late surge by the Wolves to take the frame 25-19. The Wolves struggled to get the offense going but defense kept the set close as they accumulated 16 digs in the set and putting down five total blocks. Horton had two solo blocks and King added three assists.
The Wolves got within striking distance during the third set but Anderson kept fending off the pack just enough to squeak by with a 25-20 win. Hayward and Brisson each tallied a trio of kills while Stokes aided the defensive effort with eight digs.
Newberry returns to action this Friday in Eleazer Arena when the Wolves play host to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters 7 p.m.
