Box Score DANVILLE, Ky – The Newberry College field hockey team dropped their contest to Centre College 4-1 at the South Campus Complex on Friday afternoon.
Kaitlyn Willard tallied her 10th goal of the season off of a penalty stroke in the third minute to give the Wolves (4-7, 0-2) a 1-0 lead.
The Colonels tied the match in the ninth minute as Kelsey Gordon slotted it past Newberry goalie Mary Greco.
Both teams exchanged opportunities throughout the half until Centre found a breakthrough in the 29th minute as Haley Barker scored to give the Colonels a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Freshman goalie Dakota Elzy, who replaced Greco to begin the second half, made five saves in the first fifteen minutes of action before Gordon tallied her second of the match in the 49th minute which gave Centre a 3-1 lead. Alex Ferrera added another goal in the 55th minute to push the lead to 4-1.
The Wolves travel to Louisville, Ky to take on Bellarmine University at noon on Saturday.
