"I'm really proud of the steadiness and compsure we showed tonight," said head coach Todd Hay. "Anytime you're down two sets to none, it's very easy to feel dejected and we didn't show that tonight - even in the huddles, you could see it in their faces that we wanted to win tonight."
"I'm extremely proud of Jessica King. She hit a great night hitting over .500 and really giving Carson-Newman some trouble. The big turning point in the match was in set three when our passing steadied out a little bit. It wasn't great all night, and we need to work on that, but it steadied out as we went along and that allowed up to run our offense to our middles, which is a sign we're doing things well."
"I'm very proud of the way our student body and community supported us tonight and we had an awesome atmosphere. Hopefully we can ride this momentum into the Lincoln Memorial match tomorrow and finish up with a 3-0 week."
The match did not get off to a fantastic start, as the Eagles went on a surge in the first set, spreading a one-point lead to five at 18-13. The Wolves fought back and tied the set at 24-all, but two consecutive attack errors gave Carson-Newman the set. C-N hit only .088 in the set compared to a .114 clip for Newberry, but the Wolves had two more errors on the final two points.

Newberry responded with an outstanding offensive performance in the third set, hitting .407 in the set, led by six kills from Parrish. The defensive effort was strong as well, holding Carson-Newman to a .000 rate. The Newberry rolls started in the middle of the set, as the Wolves went from a 10-9 lead to a 19-12 advantage.
The Wolves tied up the match with a very impressive fourth set, knocking down 21 kills on the 25 points in the set. Parrish and King each had six kills, while Soper added five.
