Wolves come back for 5-4 road win at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Using strong singles play, the Newberry women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory over the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters on Friday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex.

Newberry (8-7, 1-2 SAC) fell behind the Lady Railsplitters (4-5, 2-2) early in the match as LMU took two of the three doubles matches from the Wolves. Newberry's lone doubles point came at No. 2 where junior Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) and freshman Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) picked up an 8-5 victory over Jessica Baker and Alexandra Granger.

Singles action saw the Wolves' fortunes improve as junior Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) needed only two sets to defeat Elena Vasilyeva. Strong continued the Wolves' winning ways in singles play as she earned a victory over Granger in straight sets.

The bottom of the Wolves' lineup proved important as Lamers used two sets to defeat Baker at No. 5, while junior Shannon McManus (Charleston, S.C.) eased to victory in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

The Wolves travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., tomorrow for an 11 a.m. match against the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles.
