COLUMBIA - The Newberry women's tennis team cruised to a 6-3 victory over Columbia College at the Godbold Center Courts on Wednesday afternoon led by a perfect day by the Wolves' juniors from Ecuador Susana Aguirre and Romina Adum.
The Wolves (6-6) picked up a pair of victories in doubles action as Aguirre (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles sophomore Christine Connelly (Lexington, S.C.) and senior Sierra Hoover (Duncan, S.C.) earned an 8-4 win for the Wolves.
In singles action, Aguirre and Adum eased to a pair of straight sets victories at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Junior Maria Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) dropped only three games in a two-set win at No. 3, while freshman Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) dropped a single game in her victory at No. 4 singles.
Newberry is scheduled to return to action on Sunday as the Wolves host Reinhardt at 1 p.m.
