Barlage nets free-position attempt as Falcons drop Wolves 18-1

NEWBERRY - Junior Kerri Ann Barlage scored her second career goal against the Pfeiffer Falcons on Thursday, as the Wolves fell 18-1 at home to Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer (1-0) surrendered the opening draw to the Wolves (0-2), before the Falcons took control of the game at 28:27 mark. At that time the Falcons picked up a ground ball, which instantly became a goal as Kristi Korn quickly dumped a pass off to Sarah Daly who scored the first goal of the game for Pfeiffer.

The Falcon attack continued at a high pace as Pfeiffer racked up ten goals before the halftime buzzer sounded. Pfeiffer emerged from halftime with an 11th goal, before Newberry picked up a crucial draw control.

Sophomore Victoria Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.)picked controlled the ensuing draw for the Wolves and got the ball into the pocket of Barlage's (Glen Burnie, Md.) stick. Barlage took the ball toward the goal and drew a foul, which gave the Wolves' middie a free-position attempt. From the free-position opportunity, Barlage beat Pfeiffer goalkeeper Rachel McCarthy for her second goal of the season.

Pfeiffer answered Barlage's strike three minutes later, as the Falcons netted the second of their eight second period goals.

Barlage led the Wolves in shots with three, while Thomas picked up a team-high three draw controls. Junior Kristin Balish (Manassas, Va.) led Newberry in caused turnovers with three and along with Thomas led the Newberry field players with two ground balls. Newberry's freshman goalkeeper Morgan Raffaele (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) recorded six saves and five ground balls in the loss.

Newberry takes to the road on Tuesday for the first time in the 2013 season as the Wolves travel to Franklin Springs, Ga. for a 4 p.m. showdown with the Emmanuel Lions.
