GREENWOOD - Junior Romina Adum completed an undefeated day in doubles and singles action in the Wolves season opener, but Adum's efforts were not enough as Newberry fell 6-3 to the Lander Bearcats.
The Wolves (0-1) fell behind Lander (1-0) early as the Bearcats took two of the doubles points from Newberry. The lone doubles victory for the Wolves came at No. 1 doubles where preseason All-SAC second team doubles pair Susana Aguirre (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) took an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Adum came from behind at No. 2 singles picking up the victory after winning the second and third sets of her match with Marion Courbis.
Newberry's final point came at No. 5 singles, where in her collegiate debut, freshman Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) earned a two-set victory over Tiffany Vanhpraseuth.
The Wolves return to action in the morning with a 10 a.m. match in Clinton against Presbyterian.
