NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves pushed their winning streak to six matches Saturday with a pair of 3-1 wins over Brevard and GRU Augusta in Eleazer Arena on Saturday.

With the wins, Newberry is now 16-8 overall and 10-7 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wolves are back in action at Mars Hill on Tuesday night.

Newberry 3, Brevard 1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23) [Box Score]
The Wolves needed four sets but were able to earn a key conference win over Brevard in the day's opening match.

Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) had a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs while Holly Brisson (Lumberton, N.C.) had 11 kills and hit .429 in the match to lead the Wolves.

Chelsea Mayor (Sugar Land, Texas) passed out 29 assists and Rachel Moran (Cypress, Texas) dished out 20 assists. Elayni Stokes (Houston, Texas) racked up 27 digs for Newberry.

Newberry dominated the Tornados in hitting percentage in the opening set, hitting .317 in the set compared to Brevard’s .024. Despite being down 13-9, the Wolves fought back to tie the set at 18-all. A couple of costly mistakes put the Wolves behind 22-20 but Brevard gave two errors back and a hitting error by Megan Clark sealed the deal for Newberry in the first set. Parrish hit .500 in the set with four errorless kills. Jessica King (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit .333 with four kills and pitched in two blocks. Amanda Soper (Simi Valley, Calif.) hit .429 with three errorless kills and chipped in three blocks. Stokes picked up 7 digs.

In the second set the Tornados jumped out to a 10-6 lead and the Wolves came up short in their comeback attempt falling 22-25. Brisson hit a perfect 1.000 in the set with four kills.

After having a 9-all tie in the third set, the Wolves were off to the races and never looked back, keeping the lead for the rest of the frame. Alexus Horton (Austin, Texas) led Newberry with a perfect set of five kills and no errors. King was in on four blocks and Stokes picked up 10 digs.

In the fourth set, the Wolves snagged a four point lead at 15-11 and kept Brevard at bay with four service aces. Parrish led Newberry with four kills and a .667 hitting percentage while amassing 7 digs. Stokes also had 7 digs in the set.

Newberry 3, GRU Augusta (22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-12) [Box Score]
In the second match of the day the Wolves picked up their sixth straight win, pulling out a 3-1 triumph over Georgia Regents University Augusta Jaguars.

Logan Hayward (Sylvania, Ohio) led Newberry offensively with 10 kills while chipping in on three blocks. Holly Brisson (Lumberton, N.C.) hit a whopping .438 in the match with eight kills and only one error. Jessica King (Los Angeles, Calif.) totaled seven kills while posting a .375 hitting percentage and pitching in on three blocks. Elayni Stokes (Houston, Texas) tallied a match high 17 digs.

The first set turned out to be a cat and mouse game with eight ties. The Wolves fought hard but after taking a 21-18 lead the Jags pulled out four consecutive points to take a 22-21 lead. GRU Augusta would take the set 25-22. King lead the Wolves offensively hitting .400.

In the second set the Wolves howled out to a 8-0 lead and never let up. Newberry hit .421 for the set while the Jags were held to hitting -.045. Offensively the Wolves were led by Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) and Hayward both hitting .500. Parrish totaled three kills and two block assists while Hayward had two kills while adding a block assist and a solo block.

The third set saw yet another dogfight for the first half of the set. After being tied 13 all Newberry went on to score the next 12 of 16 points to take the set 25-17. Defensively the Wolves held GRU Augusta to hitting .000. Newberry was led offensively by Hayward with three kills while Horton and Parrish pitched in two kills apiece.

In the fourth set the Wolves dominated the Jaguars, hitting a phenomenal .600 for the set. Newberry jumped out to a 15-10 lead and then proceeded to score six unanswered points to take the score to 21-10. After a couple of mishaps the Wolves were right back on track and scored four unanswered points with the last delivered by a kill from King to wrap up the match. The Wolves were led offensively by King, Horton, and Hayward who were a collective 11 for 12 in the set for an unheard of .917 hitting percentage.
