WINGATE, N.C. - A pair of Wolves scored their first goals of the season, as senior Theresa Berman and freshman Heather Stork scored in the second half of Newberry's 3-2 overtime loss to the Wingate Bulldogs.

After a scoreless first half, which saw the Bulldogs (5-1-1, 2-1 SAC) outshoot the Wolves (4-4-1, 1-2) 14-7, it was Wingate's Jade Montgomery who got the scoring started in the 46th minute of play. It didn't take long for the Wolves to respond however, as senior Theresa Berman (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) pounced on a loose ball at the edge of the 18-yard box and ripped a shot to the opposite corner for her first goal of the season and second of her career. Berman's goal came in the 53rd minute.

About seven minutes after Berman's goal tied the match, freshman Heather Stork (Lexington, S.C.) one-timed a pass from senior Cassie Smith (Spartanburg, S.C.) into the corner of the goal for her first career score.

It looked like the match was locked up for the Wolves until in the 86th minute Montgomery scored her tenth goal of the season and second of the day to send the game to overtime.
Wingate attacked Newberry in the overtime period, outshooting the Wolves 3-0. A shot from Wingate's Shelby Forza in the third minute of overtime led to the Wolves downfall as the ball struck a Newberry defender's hand in the penalty area. With the handball called by the official, Wingate's Kelly Moldenhauer stepped up and converted the penalty to give Wingate the 3-2 victory.

Wingate outshot Newberry 34-13 on the afternoon.

Newberry's freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) recorded 12 saves. Smith's assist gives her nine for her career, which moves her into a tie with former Newberry midfielder Lora Moore for No. 6 on the career assists list.

The Wolves return home on Saturday, when conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne arrives in Newberry for a 2 p.m. meeting at the Newberry College Soccer Field.
