NEWBERRY - With the help of a two-goal afternoon by senior Tiffany Kinner, the Newberry women's soccer team enters conference play with winning momentum having topped Coker 4-0 on Thursday.

The Wolves (3-2-1) controlled possession for much of the match, and had plenty of scoring opportunities in the opening period. Newberry outshot Coker 14-2 in the first half and placed eight shots on frame, seeing seven turned away.

Newberry found the back of the net in the in the 42nd minute after sophomore Gabrielle Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) saw her attempt at goal turned away. As the ball trickled away from Coker's starting goalkeeper Liz Morris, Kinner (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) jumped on the rebound to open her 2012 scoring account.

Newberry continued to score into the second half, when six minutes into the second period, Kinner again pounced on a loose ball in the six-yard box to notch her second goal of the game. Newberry senior Amber Chase (Aiken, S.C.) earned an assist on Kinner's second goal.

Brodie, who took 11 shots in the match, finally saw one past the keeper in the 53rd minute when she flicked a ball over the keeper from within the six-yard box.

The Wolves' final goal of the afternoon came off the foot of sophomore Brayden Miller (Lyman, S.C.), who finished off a deflection from outside the six-yard box.

Newberry outshot Coker 26-6 and finished the match ahead of Coker 6-3 in corner kicks.

Morris recorded seven saves for Coker, while backup keeper Haley Gibson stopped four. Both Newberry keepers, sophomore Morgan Cox (Perth, West Australia, Australia) and freshman Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) notched a single save.

Brodie led all players with 11 shots, placing seven on frame. Miller added seven shots of her own with three on goal.

The Wolves enter South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when they play host to the Carson-Newman Eagles in the first of a women's and men's conference doubleheader against the Eagles beginning at 2 p.m.
