NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's soccer team outshot the visiting Queens Royals 17-13, but was undone early in the second overtime period on a header goal that sent Queens to a 1-0 victory on Monday afternoon.

Newberry (2-2-1) dominated for stretches of the first half outshooting Queens (2-3) 12-5 early in the match. Early in the first half the Wolves saw four shots on frame turned away by Queens' goalkeeper Kelsey Seretis.

The opening half saw sophomore Gabrielle Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) place two shots on frame. In addition to four shots Newberry saw saved by Seretis, the Wolves fired two shots that were blocked by Queens' defenders.

In the second half, Queens held a one shot edge over the Wolves as both teams placed a single shot on frame. In the 76th minute, Newberry sophomore Brayden Miller (Lyman, S.C.) saw a shot saved by Seretis. In the 84th minute things looked good for Queens as the Royals drew Newberry's freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) off her line, and placed a shot on frame which was cleared away by senior Katie Sas (Columbia, S.C.) in what would be one of the final shots of regulation.

Queens carried momentum from the final ten minutes of regulation into the first overtime, outshooting Newberry 2-1 and drawing a corner kick late in the first overtime.

It was 56 seconds into the second overtime, which queens drew a corner kick which was sent to the far post by Megan Sload. The curling corner kick was headed out of the air by Diamond Russos for the Royals victory in the 101st minute.

Brodie finished the afternoon with seven shots, while Miller added five.

The Wolves continue the non-conference schedule on Thursday when the Wolves play host to future South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker at 4 p.m.
