NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry women's tennis team fell 6-3 to the visiting Tusculum Pioneers at the Cannon Tennis Courts on Thursday.

The Wolves (13-8, 4-3 SAC) took an early lead over the Pioneers (13-1, 4-0 SAC) in doubles action as sophomores Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) and Susana Aguirre (Guayaquil, Ecuador) cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 singles. The Wolves second doubles point came at No. 2 doubles where sophomores Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) played to an 8-4 victory.

Due to injury and illness, the Wolves were forced to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, putting the match at 2-2.

The Wolves recorded a single victory in singles action when Aguirre won in straight sets at No. 2 singles over Tusculum's Katelyn Doss.

Newberry next will see action on Thursday April 5, when the Wolves travel to nationally ranked Wingate.
