NEWBERRY, S.C. - Despite dropping a pair of matches in doubles play, the Newberry women's tennis team notched a 7-2 victory over Converse College on Tuesday afternoon at the Cannon Tennis Courts.

Playing a four-member team for the second match in a row, the Wolves led 3-0 before setting foot on the courts.

After falling 8-6 at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Newberry jumped on the Valkyries with sophomore Susana Aguirre (Guayaquil, Ecuador) earning a straight sets victory at No. 2 singles.

Newberry continued strong singles play with two-set victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles by sophomores Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Marinz Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), respectively.

With the match already decided, Newberry's seventh point of the afternoon came at No. 1 singles as sophomore Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) topped Olivia Self in a two-set victory.

Newberry hits the road tomorrow as the South Atlantic Conference schedule opens at 2 p.m. against Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C.
