NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry women's tennis team earned its second victory in a row, as a doubles sweep led the Wolves to a 7-2 victory over the Limestone Saints at the Cannon Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

The Wolves opened the afternoon with three points at the completion of doubles play led by a dominating 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles by sophomores Marian Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador).

Newberry picked up a tight 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles as sophomores Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) and Susana Aguirre (Guayaquil, Ecuador) improved to 6-1 as a tandem. The No. 2 pairing of sophomore Shannon McManus (Charleston, S.C.) and senior Amanda Simmons (Saluda, S.C.) cruised to an 8-3 victory.

The Wolves clinched the victory after the first set of singles matches, where Newberry earned three victories. Strong picked up a straight sets victory at No. 1, while Adum did the same at No. 3. Aguirre improved to 7-0 on the season with her two set victory at No. 2.

Newberry's final point of the afternoon came at No. 6 singles where Simmons topped her Ariel Svantesson in two sets.
Newberry returns to Cannon Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon after inclement weather pushed Sunday's meeting with Lees-McRae back one day.
