Box Score

WINGATE, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves and Wingate Bulldogs had a great battle Friday night with 24 ties and 15 lead changes, but the host Bulldogs came away with a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15) South Atlantic Conference win.

Newberry falls to 16-12 overall and 9-7 in SAC play entering Saturday's 5 p.m. match at Catawba (10-12, 7-7 SAC). Wingate improves to 22-2 overall and 12-2 in the league.

Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) posted another double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Lisa Ross (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Elayni Stokes (Houston, Texas) tied for the team lead with 16 digs. With her performance Friday, Parrish needs only 21 kills to take over sole possession of first place in the Newberry record books for kills in a career, while 30 kills would give her the most kills in a season at Newberry.

The first set was a tight battle, showing neither team would be able to cruise the rest of the night. Wingate had a four-point lead at 9-5, but the Wolves responded with a four-point run to tie the set at nines. Newberry tied the match back up at a set apiece after the second set. The set was tied as late as 22-all and Parrish's sixth kill of the set put the set away at 25-23. Parrish had six errorless kills in the set, while Jessica King (Los Angeles, Calif.) had four kills. The Wolves hit .133 with 27 digs, and held Wingate to a .083 percentage.

In the third set, a late Wingate surge pulled the Bulldogs ahead after a 15-all tie.
