BREVARD, N.C. - The 2012 Newberry College football season came to a close with a 27-13 loss at the hands of the Brevard Tornados at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves end the season with a regular season record of 5-6 and a South Atlantic Conference record of 3-4, while Brevard finishes at 2-9 and 1-6 in the league.

Dureal Elmore (Abbeville, S.C.) gained 112 yards on 10 carries with a 72-yard touchdown carry, but the Wolves' offense managed only 10 first downs and 265 yards of offense. Quarterback Michael Rentz (James Island, S.C.) completed 12-of-23 passes with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Corey Washington (North Charleston, S.C.).

Rentz threw two interceptions, with the first pick returned 35 yards for the opening touchdown. After the missed PAT, Elmore's touchdown carry with 8:28 left in the first half tied the game at 6-6, a tie that would carry over to halftime.

Brevard would then score 21 straight points in the second half to push to the winning advantage. The Tornados went 70 yards on 11 plays on their first drive of the half with a 2-yard touchdown carry making it 13-6 home lead and after a Newberry fumble, an eight-play, 47 yard scoring drive pushed the lead to 19-6.

Newberry went three-and-out and the Tornados responded with a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive from which Newberry could not recover. Wolves drives ended with a four-and-out and an interception before Daniel Foster (Lancaster, S.C.) recovered a fumble to set up Newberry's scoring drive.

A 51-yard completion from Rentz to Byron Dickerson (Atlanta, Ga.) set up the 10-yard touchdown pass to Washington, but Newberry could not recover the onside kick to have a chance to come back.

Apollo Stretch (Columbia, S.C.) led the Wolves with 11 tackles to finish his Newberry career with 324 tackles, the sixth-most in Newberry history. His 224 solo tackles in his career rank second in school history.
