Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Newberry Wolves dropped the first set to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Saturday afternoon but rallied to take a 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-22) victory in the Mary Mars Gym.
Newberry moves to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Wolves have now won a program-best six consecutive SAC victories and tie a school record with eight SAC wins this season, with five conference matches still remaining.
Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) had 18 kills and 18 digs, while Lauren Prachar (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was just behind her with 17 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Elayni Stokes (Houston, Texas) had a team-high 21 digs and Jessica King (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 10 kills.
A tightly contested first set was broken open by a four-point LMU run that helped the Railsplitters get out to an 18-14 lead. Newberry could not narrow the deficit to fewer than three points as LMU took a 25-19 set win. Parrish had five kills, while King and Prachar each had three. Newberry hit .220 compared to LMU's .351.
Newberry used small surges in the second set to get out to a lead and had set point at 24-20. The hosts fought off Newberry's win three times, but a King kill finally put the set away and tied the match at one set apiece. King had five kills and Madison Schultz (Decatur, Ind.) had three, as Newberry hit .182 and held LMU to a .036 percentage.
Prachar had nine kills and the Wolves hit .259 to earn a close 27-25 win and take the lead. Newberry led by four points at 8-4, but LMU had tied it back up by 10-all. From there, neither team could get ahead by the required two points until Schultz and Prachar put away consecutive kills to give the Wolves a win.
The fourth set was just as tight, with the set tied as late as 22-all, but a ball handling error from LMU and two straight kills from Parrish clinced Newberry's sweep of the road trip. The Wolves hit .239 in the set and held LMU to .186. Parrish had six kills without and error in the set, while Prachar had five kills.
Parrish became only the second player in Newberry history to record 1,100 career kills with her final kill of the third set.
