JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The No. 2 ranked Newberry Wolves recorded five bonus point wins and a forfeit on the way to a dominant 37-10 win over the Shippensburg (Pa.) Red Raiders in the UPJ Sports Center on Saturday morning.
With the win, Newberry moves to 12-1 in duals this season entering the 11 a.m. matchup with Seton Hill (Pa.) University.
Travis Laxton (Live Oak, Fla.) got the dual started on the right foot and earned his first dual win with a 9-1 major decision over Colton Keck to put Newberry up 4-0 after 125 lbs., but Jon Cronin (Las Vegas, Nev.) was pinned by Cody Myers at 133 lbs. to give the Red Raiders a 6-4 lead.
No. 6 BJ Young (Jackson, N.J.) put the Wolves back on top at 141 lbs. with a pin of Simon Rice at the 2:26 mark to make it 10-6 in Newberry's favor.
No. 8 Deral Brown (Elgin, S.C.) moved to 12-0 in duals on the season at 149 lbs. with a 16-6 major decision over James Reilley to give the Wolves a 14-6 advantage.
At 157 lbs., Davis Bagwell (Birmingham, Ala.) fought hard against John Lindquist, but came out on the wrong end of a 10-2 major decision, making it a 14-9 dual score at the halfway mark.
No. 6 Sean Byrnes (Jackson, N.J.) got off to a hot start at 165 lbs. and pinned Neil Grudi at the 2:21 mark to put Newberry up 20-10 and No. 7 Travis Sheehy (Suwanee, Ga.) earned a 9-2 decision over Luke Etter to put Newberry up 23-10.
Jared Holliday (Burlington, N.J.) clinched the dual victory for the Wolves with a 10-3 decision over Tyler Zittle with over four minutes of riding time. Zach Anderson (Dunwoody, Ga.) won the 197 lbs. bout by forfeit.
No. 4 Jake Elkins (Trussville, Ala.) finished off the dominating win with a 16-0 technical fall over Shippensburg's Jacob Nale.
