Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - Newberry continued its dominant play in its second match of the day torching Pfeiffer, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-15).
"It was a great day for us," head coach David Nicholson said. "We really played all facets of the game well. It shows me what kind of team we can be when we elevate our play like we did today."
Sophomore Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) continued to change the game with her explosive serve. A Pfeiffer service error gave Parrish the ball and she piled up three aces in the midst of an 8-0 run giving Newberry a 10-2 lead. Lauren Prachar (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished off the set with one of her team-high 11 kills.
Newberry (5-4) hit .300 for the match with the help of setter Blair Browning (New Lexington, Ohio) who finished with 30 assists and spread the ball judiciously. Parrish added 10 kills and 13 digs. Madison Schultz (Decatur, Ind.) put away eight points while Amanda Soper (Simi Valley, Calif.) had seven kills.
Prachar led the way in the second set hitting 5-for-7. She put away three of four points during Lindsey Hollingsworth's (Charleston, S.C.) serve turn which saw the Wolves run off six straight points. Later in the match, Prachar ran off six straight points for the Wolves on her serve, including two aces, putting Newberry ahead for good at 22-7.
"We really did an outstanding job serving today," Nicholson said. "The girls really had our opponents off balance all day long."
In set three, Pfeiffer was able to hang with Newberry early. A Newberry attack error tied the set at 8, but Newberry was too tough after that point. A Schultz (Decatur, Ind.) blast gave the Wolves a 16-11 lead. Newberry locked up the win by taking the final six points of the third set. A Prachar blast got the Wolves their 20th point of the set. She kept Pfeiffer back on its heels serving the final five points of the match.
Parrish finished with a double-double, 10 kills and 13 digs. Prachar's 11 digs gave her a double-double as well.
Newberry will return to conference play next Friday with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Brevard.
