SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Despite picking up the fourth straight win from sophomore Sierra Hoover (Duncan, S.C.) in the No. 6 singles spot, the Wolves could not generate any more offense, falling 8-1 to Converse College.

After beginning the season with an 0-4 mark, Hoover has brought her record back to the .500 mark by rattling off four straight wins.

Doubles action began with Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Amanda Simmons (Saluda, S.C.) dropping the opening match against Olivia Self amd Lindsey Kelly by an 8-1 tally. Shannon McManus (Charleston, S.C.) and Lindsay Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) played the second doubles bout against Ariel Strong and Taylor Bland close, but could not come up with a team point for the Wolves as they fell 8-5.

Hoover and Stephanie Matthews (Saluda, S.C.) took their match with Stella Ford and Francesca Mayer right down to the wire, but could not seal the deal as the pair fell 9-8 after a 7-5 tiebreak tally did not go their way.

In the singles portion of the event, Ziehe was involved in another nail-biter for the pack, but could not force a third set against Strong, falling 6-3, 7-6.

McManus was defeated in No. 2 singles by Self 6-0,. 6-1 before Simmons fell to Kelly 6-2, 6-2. Matthews dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Bland and Kyzer lost 6-3, 6-0 to Ford before the Hoover win provided the sole team point of the afternoon for the netters.

The scarlet and gray return to Newberry to play host to Catawba in the second South Atlantic Conference match of the season. The matches at Cannon Courts will begin at 2 p.m Thurday, March 3.
