GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis team dropped its season opener to the Lander Bearcats, 8-0. The match was shortened due to rain, and the Wolves now sit at 0-1 on the season.

In singles action, Newberry's No. 1 slot was occupied by Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Ziehe dropped her match with Brandi Cordell 6-2, 6-3. At the No. 2 spot, Shannon McManus (Charleston, S.C.) couldn't solve Aurelia Ruffat, losing 6-1, 6-1.
