Newberry drops match to Lincoln Memorial, 9-0

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis teams dropped a South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon to Lincoln Memorial, 9-0.

Newberry moves to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in SAC play while Lincoln Memorial improves to 7-2 on the season and 2-2 in the SAC.

In singles action, Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) fell to Leah Donoff, 6-1, 6-2, while Amanda Simmons (Saluda, S.C.) and Rebekah Crouch (Saluda, S.C.) each fell, 6-0, 6-1, to Sofia Lopez Mimendi and Ann-Sophie Indeherberge, respectively. Stephanie Matthews was defeated by Melanie Smith, 6-0, 6-0. Lindsay Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) dropped a match to Mandy Mills, 6-2, 6-2, and Sierra Hoover (Duncan, S.C.) came up short against Morgan Taylor, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, the team of Mortimer and Matthews lost to Lopez Mimendi and Indeherberge, 8-1. Simmons and Crouch fell to Smith and Donoff, 8-1, and Hoover and Kyzer dropped a match to Mills and Amanda Horenkamp, 8-2.

Newberry next heads to North Greenville for a non-conference match against the Crusaders on Tuesday, March 23.
