Box Score 2 NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College baseball team struggled offensively Saturday as the scarlet and gray dropped both ends of a doubleheader to No. 29 Mars Hill, 7-1 and 4-0.
Newberry falls to 11-12 overall and 1-7 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Mars Hill is now 13-7 overall and 9-2 in SAC action. The two teams will close out the weekend series with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday,
Game One: Mars Hill 7, Newberry 1
The Lions scored runs in five consecutive innings and kept Newberry off the scoreboard until the seventh inning to take the win in the first game. MHC starter Kevin Searcy allowed one unearned run in eight innings on seven hits.
Mars Hill got on the board in the top of the first after Devin Presnell hit a lead off double and was plated on an RBI single by Adam Lewis. Rusty Smith made it a 2-0 game with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Dalton Hardee hit a two-out RBI single in the fourth and the Lions scored a pair of runs in the fifth after Newberry committed two errors with two outs to keep the inning going. Devin Presnell's RBI single in the sixth and an RBI fielders' choice by Michael Bueker gave the Lions a 7-0 lead.
Newberry got its only run of the game on an RBI single from Andy Vogel (Marietta, Ga.) in the bottom of the seventh. The scarlet and gray had chances to score throughout the game, but left six runners in scoring position, including a pair of situations in the first two innings where there was a runner on third with one out and Newberry could not score.

Game Two: Mars Hill 4, Newberry 0
Mars Hill starting pitcher Justin Hall allowed only two Newberry hits to lead the Lions to victory in the seven-inning game. Newberry only had three base runners in the game, two of which were stranded in scoring position.
Mars Hill scored in the second on a bases loaded walk, but Newberry starter Chris Roman (Kissimmee, Fla.) forced the next batter to fly out to only give up one run. The Lions would score a single run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single from Kris Torrance and tacked on two more runs in the sixth when Bueker scored on a wild pitch and Kitt was plated with a sacrifice fly.
Roman allowed four runs - two earned - on seven hits and six walks, striking out seven in the complete game loss.
