Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Newberry College men's soccer team put the finishing touches on its 2010 season as Carson-Newman handed the Wolves their eighth straight loss, 6-1. Newberry ends its year going 1-13-2 overall and 0-8-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Wolves kept things interesting as Adrian Ochoa (East Point, Ga.) put in his own rebound in the 35th minute to tie the game at one a piece.
The excitement was short lived, however, as Carson-Newman (11-4-1, 8-1 SAC) scored twice more, one on a Jared Prall (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) shot that trickled past Newberry keeper Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, S.C.) for the 2-1 lead and the other just before the half on an Adam Thomas (Morristown, Tenn.) header.
It was more of the same for the Wolves in the second half as Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed a shot in the lower right corner of the net for the 4-1 lead. Luke Weemes (London, England) scored the fifth goal of the game as he fired off a free kick and made it 5-1 Eagles. Prall then put in his second and the game's final goal in the 86th minute from 10 yards out.
Newberry took ten shots during the contest and were led by Ochoa's four, three of which were on goal. Freshmen Stephen Harvey (Apopka, Fla.) finished up with three shots while teammate Jay Barajas (Marietta, Ga.) had two.
Sweatt played the length of the match in goal for Newberry, saving three shots.
