GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Newberry women's tennis team earned its ninth loss of the season by falling to the Tusculum Pioneers on the road, 9-0.
In doubles play, Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) and Rebekah Crouch (Saluda, S.C.) fell to Caroline Crowe and Katelyn Doss (8-4); Allison Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) and Kelly Cheesborough (Harlem, Ga.) lost to Amanda Pike and Jennifer Spikes (8-0); and Denise Williams (Blackville, S.C.) and Lindsey Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) were dropped by Heidi von der Lage and Jessi Smith (8-0).
In singles action, Mortimer was defeated by Sparks (6-3, 6-4); Crouch was swept by Doss (6-0, 6-0); Cheesborough lost to Pike (6-1, 6-1); Allison Kyzer was defeated by Lage (6-1, 6-1); Lindsey Kyzer lost against Crowe (6-0, 6-0); and Williams was defeated by Thompson (6-0, 6-0).
Newberry now falls to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the SAC. They will hit the courts on the road tomorrow to play Carson-Newman at 11 am. Tusculum (13-3, 6-0 in the SAC) will next face Brevard at home tomorrow at 1 pm.
